What is baby horse?

Baby horses are called foals and are typically born with a coat of soft, fluffy hair called a "birth coat". Foals generally weigh around 60 to 100 pounds and stand between 2.5 to 3.5 feet tall at birth. They are able to stand and nurse within just a few hours after being born. Foals typically stay with their mothers for at least six months, during which time the mother helps to protect and teach the foal about survival and socialization. As they grow, foals shed their birth coat and develop a more lustrous and colorful adult coat. They also gradually learn how to eat solid food and socialize with other horses. Foals are vulnerable to a number of threats, including predation and injury, and require diligent care and protection in order to thrive.
